Epi-blading, or dermaplaning, is an excellent treatment to have in the lead up to an event because it removes all of the peach-like fuzz and allows your makeup to go on super smooth! With the race season well and truly upon us and the festive season fast-approaching, now is a perfect time to talk about this increasingly popular treatment.
So, what is it exactly?
A surgical blade is gently worked over the face to remove the outer layers of dead skin cells as well as any fine/vellus hair. This also makes it great for clients with blonde hair that cannot be treated with IPL or laser. The result is deeply-exfoliated, softer, smoother skin that is a flawless canvas for a perfect makeup application.
MYTH: HAIR WILL GROW BACK THICKER FROM EPI-BLADING – It is physically impossible for a treatment like this, or shaving, to change the anatomy of the hair. Shaving cuts the hair at the surface, making it a blunt cut across, making us think the hair is thicker. If the hair were to grow, it would taper and be finer at the end. Think of bald men who shave – their hair doesn’t grow back any thicker!
It is always recommended to visit a reputable clinic for your treatment, to ensure that your Dermal Therapist is well-trained and has an exceptional epi-blading technique.
‘There is a misconception that the treatment can encourage facial hair growth, but it is the opposite that happens. We have seen clients who developed substantial fluffy facial hair post-chemotherapy, and after one treatment, it never returned. Not a lot of clinics offer this service, and not a lot of people know we do offer it.’ – Lisa Price, Director of Clinical Services.
